Common Core

North Boone follows the Common Core State Standards in math and language arts for what students are expected to learn in each grade. Please use the website to learn more about each standard.   http://www.corestandards.org/

Math

Our school district uses the Into Math program.  This is a brand new curriculum for our district and I am so excited to get started with your student!  Math will look a little different than in years prior but it is going to be an amazing new routine!

Science

Our school uses the Inspire Science program.  This is a very hands on program.  We will be studying structures and functions of living things, patterns of Earth's changing features, energy and motion, and wave patterns and information.

Social Studies

In fourth grade, students spend their year in social studies learning about Illinois.

Spelling

We are using the Words Their Way program this year.  Students within our classroom will have different spelling lists based on their needs.  Every other week your child will be bringing home about 20 words or so.  Please make sure that your child is practicing their sort each night.  Every other Friday, students will be tested over their words.

Reading

In class we are visualizing, questioning, predicting, inferring, and making connections to help us become better at comprehending what we read.  Reading away from school is very important.  Weekly reading logs are a requirement for our reading program in fourth grade and they are taken very seriously.  Students will need to read for a minimum of 30 minutes a night for at least five nights each week.  Their reading must be recorded on their logs each week.  On Mondays the student reading logs are collected and new ones are given out.

Writing

Writing, editing, and studying writers is integral to fourth grade.  We are learning to stay on topic, tell more in our writing, and use proper writing mechanics.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
